Ceramic, dimensions variable, 2010 - ongoing.
In 2010 I began creating small clay busts of the 15 members of the Los Angeles City council from the glossy press photos their offices disseminate to the public. This activity was a way to better familiarize myself with my closest political figures. Through the slowed down analysis of their images and the manipulation of the material to create their likenesses, questions arose about the history of political caricature and gesture, as well as the formal and conceptual implications of abstracting and translating a figure through different materials of representation.
